The project involves the transformation of a 25 sq.m. ground-floor retail unit with a mezzanine, located in the historic center of Thessaloniki, into a short-term rental apartment.

The primary design intent was to establish a sense of privacy while preventing the interior from being perceived as an extension of the public sidewalk. A custom birch plywood volume is introduced to create an intermediate elevated level in-between the ground floor and the mezzanine, accommodating the main living area. The main window is positioned in relation to this volume, allowing visual continuity with the exterior while limiting direct visual exposure to passersby.

The kitchen and bathroom are organized at the rear of the ground floor, beneath the mezzanine. Storage spaces are integrated below the elevated wooden volume. Access to the sleeping area on the mezzanine is provided via a staircase anchored to the in-between level.

The street façcade is defined by a grid of new openings and clad in birch plywood, reflecting the interior materiality.
